About Me
*KOeSTER is an Afrikaans word for Nurturing, Loving Care
My Approach
I work collaboratively with individuals, couples and families, as well as with professionals who may work alongside families and children to bring about change. My approach is systemic. It means that I see individuals as being connected to other people, to ideas and their environment – that we are continuously shaping our experiences through our relationships and interactions with other people and belief systems.
In order for things to change, systemic therapists may work with any part of the system (which may include other significant people or aspects that influence the issue that needs addressing)
My Story
I originally qualified and worked as a Social Worker in South Africa, before I moved to England where I trained to become a Family Therapist. I have over 25 years’ experience working in Local Authority, charities and in the NHS supporting families, couples and individuals in developing more meaningful, emotionally attuned and responsive relationships.
I am registered with UKCP as a Systemic Family Therapist, which means that I adhere to an ethical code. I continue in my professional development through regular clinical supervision and ongoing training. I am also a registered Social Worker. I have an enhanced DBS certificate.
I am also a mother, partner, listener, problem-solver and dreamer. I love the simple, beautiful things in life. I hold onto hope. I draw inspiration and energy from nature, books, animals and art, as well as tender connection between people.
I am Hanna Koster, a Systemic Family Psychotherapist who specialises in helping families to manage and respond to the challenges that trauma, loss and life stresses can bring to individuals and within interpersonal relationships. I have an interest and experience in working with children who have experienced neglect, abuse, loss and separation or trauma in their lives – and a particular passion for working with children in the Care system and the families / professionals involved in their care. I work with families from all backgrounds, cultures and compositions.
My practice is currently based in Grantham, I work across Lincolnshire and the East Midlands as well as some London boroughs.
